A Binary Universe

What if the universe is fundamentally binary? It was once thought that the atom was the smallest unit of matter and could not be divided any further, but then subatomic particles were discovered and atoms were split. I know nothing about quantum physics, but I do know a little about imaginary physics. Imagine that all subatomic particles are made up of arrangements of two kinds of particles. Then all the physicists lived happily ever after.
